The award ceremony was held on the evening of 21 May 2011 in Amman (Jordan) during the 3-day-long meeting of the Board Trustees and General Assembly of the Welfare Association. The award was delivered by Mr. Nabil Qaddumi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, on behalf of the Welfare Association, and Mr. Munir Kleibo, acting as the representative of the independent jury responsible for granting the award.
Due to the travel ban imposed on him by the Israeli authorities since 2006, Al-Haq’s General Director, Shawan Jabarin, was unable to attend the ceremony, but Mr. Ghassan Abdullah (Treasurer – Board of Directors) and Ms. Nina Atallah (Head of the Monitoring and Documentation Department) accepted the award on behalf of Al-Haq. Ms. Atallah delivered a speech expressing gratitude to the Welfare Association for this prestigious award, which is not only an important acknowledgment of the organisation’s work but will also further inspire and motivate its engagement in the promotion of human rights and the rule of law. This award should be understood as the collective achievement of a synergy of professional skills, passion and commitment to justice, and as such, the organisation is grateful to its staff members, partner organisations and supporters who, through their tireless work and dedication, have made this recognition possible. The organisation dedicates this important award to all the victims of human rights violations as a symbol of its mission to continue defending their rights and pursuing justice.
