Al-Haq Attends the Second Annual United Nations Forum on Business and Human Rights

United-nations-300x169On Tuesday 3 December Al-Haq, in conjunction with Franciscans International, Act Alliance, MISEREOR, FASTENOPFER and the Centre Catholique International Geneve will host a side event entitled "Addressing Justice, Due Diligence and Access to Remedy in the Context of Extractive Industries: Cases in the Philippines, Mozambique, southern Africa, Palestine and Thailand". The event will provide an opportunity to exchange views on the implementation of the United Nations (UN) Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (Guiding Principles) in terms of due diligence, State responsibility and access to remedy. It will be held at 6:45 pm in the Conference Room (Ground Floor), 1 rue Varembé (opposite ITU Building), 1202 Geneva. The event is open to those who are interested in the subject of business and human rights, but may be unable to attend the Forum itself.

On Wednesday 4 December Al-Haq, along with Franciscans International, Act Alliance, MISEREOR, FASTENOPFER and the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights will host a side event entitled "Addressing State Responsibility, Due Diligence and Access to Remedy: Challenges and Good Practices in the Extractive Sector". The event will bring together representatives of affected communities in the occupied Palestinian territory (OPT), the Philippines and southern Africa to present case studies on the impact of extractive industry operations in their respective locations. The side-event will act as a platform for the three main pillars of the Guiding Principles – civil society, enterprise and government – to exchange views on the applicability, utilisation and implementation of the relevant Guiding Principles. It will be held at 12:00 pm in Room XXIII, Palais des nations, UN Office in Geneva.
