Al-Haq Delivers an Oral Intervention at the Human Rights Council on Israel’s Ongoing Genocide in Gaza and Intensified West Bank Assault
10، Mar 2025

On 4 March 2025, during the 58th session of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council, Al-Haq delivered a recorded oral intervention under the general debate on Item 2 as of part of its engagement.

In its statement, Al-Haq highlighted Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and systematic attacks on Palestinian refugees in the West Bank. It underscored that despite the “ceasefire”, Israel’s genocide in Gaza is ongoing, including killings, buffer zone bombings, and the destruction of UNRWA schools, while impeding the entry of humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials.

Al-Haq further emphasized that Israel has intensified military operations in the Northern West Bank since 19 January 2025, systematically targeting Palestinian refugees, outlawing UNRWA, and forcibly displacing 40,000 Palestinians–the largest forced displacement since 1967. The statement denounced Israel’s plans for the forcible transfer of millions of Palestinian from Gaza, a policy openly advocated by Prime Minister Netanyahu with full impunity and active endorsement from the United States.

Crucially, Al-Haq stressed that Israel is entrenching its annexationist settler colonial apartheid regime, while imposing conditions of life intended to destroy the Palestinian people. To this end, Al-Haq urged Third States to take immediate action to ensure the full-scale entry life-saving aid into Gaza, the return of displaced Palestinians and the release of Palestinian detainees. Additionally, Al-Haq urged the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue additional arrest warrants against Israeli officials and expand charges to include settlements, apartheid, and genocide.

Finally, Al-Haq reiterated that it is imperative to address the root cause of Israel’s crimes, end the illegal occupation by September 2025, and fulfill the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.

Al-Haq’s full statement reads as follows:

Despite the “ceasefire”, Israel’s genocide in Gaza continues, including killings, buffer zone bombings, and the destruction of UNRWA schools. Essential humanitarian aid and reconstruction materials are being impeded. Seven newborn babies have died frozen from hypothermia.

Prime Minister Netanyahu is freely crossing the airspace of Rome Statute parties, while advocating for the forcible transfer of millions of Palestinians from Gaza – with full impunity – and United States endorsement.

Since January 19th, Israel has “intensified” military operations in the northern West Bank, systematically targeting Palestinian refugees. Israel has outlawed UNRWA, killed 65 Palestinians, and forcibly displaced 40,000 Palestinian refugees, the largest mass displacement since 1967 – stating that they will not return. Israel is entrenching its annexationist settler colonial apartheid regime and imposing conditions of life to destroy Palestinians.

We call on Third States to ensure the full at scale entry of life-saving aid into Gaza, the return of displaced Palestinians and the release of Palestinian detainees. We call on the International Criminal Court to issue further arrest warrants, and expand charges to include, settlements, apartheid and genocide.

The root causes must be addressed, the illegal occupation ended by September 2025, and the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people fulfilled.
