On Wednesday, 7 June 2023, Al-Haq hosted representatives from the EU in its office in Ramallah meeting with the six Palestinian civil society organisations outlawed by Israel. The envoy included the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Mr Eamon Gilmore, EU Representative Mr Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff and Political Officer for the EU Representative Office, Ms Thea Nielsen. They heard updates from the organisations about the ongoing impact of Israel’s arbitrary outlawing and criminalisation of their work. Mr Shawan Jabarin, General Director of Al-Haq, reiterated the need for action against the shrinking civil society space in Palestine and urged the EU to press for sanctions against Israel and not be selective in the implementation of international law.
