Human Rights Assessment of the Declaration of Principles on Interim Self-Government Arrangements

This report assesses the implications of the Declaration of Principles (DOP) regarding human rights and the rule of law in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The report takes into consideration the possible responses to, and implementation of, the DOP according to various interpretations of the document. By elucidating the linguistic ambiguities of the DOP, this Al-Haq report reveals some of the document's shortcomings, namely in regards to Palestinian human rights issues. Moreover, the report offers a coherent commentary on the measures which should be taken in order to ensure the Palestinians with the provision and preservation of basic human rights under international law.
