Amid continued escalations against the Gaza Strip, Israeli warplanes carried out intensive raids on various areas therein between the evening of 8 August 2018 and 11:00 pm 9 August 2018. According to Al-Haq’s field research, the Israeli occupying forces carried out 50 raids, during which about 120 rockets were fired across the Gaza Strip, targeting civilian locations, security sites, sites belonging to Palestinian factions, and empty areas. In addition, artillery shells were fired by Israeli tanks targeting sites allegedly controlled by Hamas, as well as open land near the Gaza fence. Israel’s bombardments resulted in the killing of three Palestinians, including a pregnant woman and her 18-months-old child, and the injury of 36 others, including 12 children.

On Friday, 10 August 2018, the Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) killed two Palestinians, including a volunteer paramedic, and injured 143 Palestinians, including 22 children, four paramedics, and two journalists, using live fire and tear gas canisters to suppress peaceful Great Return March protests for the 20th consecutive week. Of the 143 injured, 14 were in serious condition as of 10 August 2018.

For the past 19 weeks, and as part of the Great Return March, which commenced on 30 March 2018, Palestinians have been exercising their right to peaceful assembly and protest against Israel’s unlawful closure and blockade of the Gaza Strip, as well as demanding the realisation of their right to return to their homes, as mandated by international law and reaffirmed in over a hundred United Nations (UN) resolutions since 1948. Since 30 March, the Israeli Occupying Forces (IOF) have systematically and deliberately targeted protected Palestinians, killing 127 Palestinians, including 28 children, during peaceful demonstrations across the Gaza Strip.
